In Mozambique, poverty is widespread across the country. At national level 64% of the population lives below the poverty line (US $ 0.40 per day); 71% of poverty is in rural areas; 79% of the population lives in rural areas.

“Mozambique’s priority objective of reducing absolute poverty by around 30% over the next ten years will target two-thirds of the population below the poverty line, especially in rural areas.”
